Event Ceremonial Cattle Drive from the Gramai Alm

How would you “celebrate the joy of life”? At Lake Achensee, they do this by holding a festive “roundup” of the cattle on the alpine pasture and a big welcome party in the valley.

The return of festively decorated animals to their home village in the valley after the summer on the alpine pastures is celebrated in style every year—especially when the animals return healthy and unharmed. The cows that spend the summer on the Gramai Alm are decked out in the morning on the day of the Almabtrieb and herded down into the valley to Pertisau at noon. Their big welcome celebration, complete with music, takes place in front of the Hotel Das Karwendel.

Starting at 10 a.m., a morning get-together with live music and a farmers’ market at the Gramai Alm ensures a cheerful start to the day. The day concludes with a hut evening at the Gramai Alm.
