Lard noodles, bread doughnuts and bacon specialties: At the Wildschönau Almabtriebsfest you can not only see Tyrolean traditions, but also taste them.
During the traditional cattle drive in Auffach in the Wildschönau, over 500 animals are driven down from the mountain pastures into the valley. After the Gru-Nacht, the last night before returning home from the mountain pastures, the animals are milked and decorated, "aufbischt" as the people of Wildschönau say. Then it's down to the valley.
The celebrations start at 10 a.m. at a large alpine festival with a craft and farmers' market in the Schatzbergbahn parking lot in Auffach. Local farmers offer specialties such as bread doughnuts, lard noodles, cheese and bacon as well as other regional delicacies. Craftsmen demonstrate traditional techniques. The festival is opened with music by the Auffach brass band. The first cows from the surrounding mountain pastures arrive around midday.
