The Dolomites Cycling Tour is a race through the beautiful East Tyrolean mountains. For some years now, the popular cycling marathon has had an ambitious sibling: the 240-kilometre SuperGiroDolomiti - a competition that not everyone is up to.
Every year at the beginning of June, more than 1,000 cyclists take on the Tour of the Dolomites, a 112-kilometre cycling marathon through the majestic natural landscapes of East Tyrol and Carinthia. With an altitude difference of 1,870 meters, the Dolomites Cycling Tour is demanding but a manageable challenge. It leads through romantic villages, along the jagged mountain peaks of the Lienz Dolomites and is accompanied by the sounds of numerous music bands. At the finish line on the main square in Lienz, all participants are duly celebrated as winners.
The extreme version of the race, the SuperGiroDolomiti, which takes place in parallel for the ninth time, is much more difficult to master. At 228 kilometers, it is almost twice as long and the 5,450 vertical meters make it a challenge for ambitious cyclists and professionals. Its route also leads around the Lienz Dolomites, but is extended to the south-east to the Italian side. There are three passes to conquer, but the unique mountain scenery makes up for it.
