The challenging Glacier Trail Run leads high up to the roof of the Ötztal Valley. There are four routes to choose from, plus the “Top Mountain Run” and a kids’ race.
If you want to go trail running in Tyrol, you can’t miss the Gletscher Trailrun in Gurgl. It takes you into the breathtaking glacial landscape of the Upper Ötztal Valley, reaching altitudes of up to 3,000 meters. However, the long “Glacier Trail 62K” route—at 61.1 kilometers and 3,600 meters of elevation gain—is not for beginners; it demands a high level of fitness and technical skill.
The 42K marathon distance is also very challenging. However, there are also two shorter options: the 26K and 14K Glacier Trails.
Children can also get a taste of the glacier air at the “Widi Trail Run,” which offers three different distances ranging from 200 to 600 meters. All of these races take place on Saturday and start in the village center of Obergurgl. The evening before, there’s also the “Top Mountain Run,” which is 6.3 kilometers long.
The supporting program includes an expo where participants can test out gear, and the food offerings emphasize regional ingredients.
