Description

The historical log cabin originates from the Gleirsch Valley in the Karwendel Nature Park and was formerly used by lumberjacks as accommodation. Now it houses a modern exhibition on the history and present of wood usage, the life of lumberjacks then and now, as well as ecological networking and natural diversity in the mountain forest.

The new location of the lumber cabin is also historical. The so-called "Länd" only retains its former significance in name, as a landing place for the timber drifted over Gleirschbach and Isar. At that time, the Isar was dammed into a shallow lake surrounded by a large wood storage. The "lumber cabin" was originally built in 1913 in the Gleirsch Valley. The master carpenter from Scharnitz, Alois Seelos, purchased it just before demolition and rebuilt it in 2017 in the Länd.

During a cozy guided tour of the museum, you will gain insights into the past and draw comparisons with today’s forestry. As a little treat, there will be a tasting of "Kaiserschmarrn," which is "contemporarily" prepared on the original wood stove in the lumber cabin, enticing with its delicious aroma. The program is complemented by various short films about the Karwendel Nature Park.

Registration via the Seefeld Information Office, region@seefeld.com, is requested by the day before, at 5.00 p.m.
