The atmosphere is particularly nostalgic at the oldest and largest Christmas market in the Old Town, right beneath the majestic Christmas tree in front of the Goldenes Dachl. More than 65 stalls offer handicrafts and Christmas tree ornaments, and from the viewing platform, you can look down on the colorful hustle and bustle and the romantically decorated mountain huts. In Märchen Gasse, fairy tale fans can discover 20 stories and characters—some interactive and newly designed. The giants in Riesengasse guide visitors into the world of legends and myths surrounding Innsbruck.

You can go even higher to the Christmas market on the Hungerburg, Innsbruck’s highest. It’s small but charming and boasts a fantastic panoramic view of the city. The Christmas market on Marktplatz is especially recommended for families, who will appreciate the wide range of activities for children—from puppet shows and fairy tale readings to a virtual horse-drawn carriage ride. This is also where you’ll find the world’s only 17.5-meter-tall Christmas tree made of Swarovski crystals. The market on Maria-Theresien-Straße has a very modern feel, especially thanks to its lighting design, where vendors showcase Christmas products from all over the world in their displays. If you prefer a quiet and atmospheric setting, the lovingly designed stalls at the small markets on Wiltener Platzl, at Bergisel, and in St. Nikolaus are the perfect choice.
