Description

Accordionist Luciano Biondini and Klaus Falschlunger on the sitar belong to those musicians who, with open eyes and ears, continually seek encounters between different musical traditions and styles. In their new program “Once In A Blue Moon,” these two virtuosos traverse the vast galaxies of Western and Eastern musical hemispheres – soulful music full of poetry, energy, and fine humor. They build bridges between Indian music, jazz, pop, and folk - extending into Italian folklore. Their musical diary entries are an extraordinary sonic experience! Luciano Biondini has studied classical accordion since the age of ten and received numerous international awards such as the Trophée Mondial de l'Accordéon, the Premio Internazionale di Castelfidardo, the Premio "Luciano Fancelli," and the Premio Internazionale di Recanati. In 1994, he turned to jazz music and performed with musicians such as Rabih Abou-Khalil, Dave Bargeron, Michel Godard, Lucas Niggli, Battista Lena, Gabriele Mirabassi, Enrico Rava, Tony Scott, Mike Turk, Ares Tavolazzi, Roberto Ottaviano, Maarten van der Grinten, Martin Classen, and Enzo Pietropaoli. He regularly collaborates in a duo with Argentine saxophonist and clarinetist Javier Girotto. And now there is a musical friendship with Tyrol...

Since the Austrian musician Klaus Falschlunger came into contact with the Indian sitar over 30 years ago, he has become a master of the instrument and an active representative of the Indo-European scene in Europe. He is currently considered one of the most distinguished and versatile sitar players in Europe. After three years of study in New Delhi and Varanasi in North India and later in Vienna, he increasingly explored his musical limits and those of the instrument. His compositions feature a variety of elements from Indian music, jazz, folk, and rock/pop. Growing up with jazz and rock music, he discovered the diversity of music during his extensive travels to Asia, the Middle East, and Europe. In addition to his preference for Indian classical music, he plays, experiments, and composes with different formations. His creativity and versatility have brought him together with numerous musicians and artists from India, Korea, the USA, and Europe. He has performed extensively in Europe, India, Mexico, South Korea, and has released and produced numerous recordings with different ensembles. LUCIANO BIONDINI (accordion) and KLAUS FALSCHLUNGER (sitar) can undoubtedly be called true masters of their craft. Both have perfected their playing on the instrument and its creative use across various genres. Now they show us with the current program “Once in a Blue Moon” (ATS-Records) how the musical worlds of Indian, European, and American cultures can be united, while simultaneously creating a unique dreamlike soundscape.
