Description

Seven courses ranging from 8 to 100 kilometers in high-alpine terrain await runners at the Pitz Alpine Glacier Trail, which starts in Mandarfen in the Pitztal Valley. Elite and recreational trail runners tackle scenic trails there, reaching altitudes above 3,000 meters on the glacier. Each year, the route takes runners through iconic sections such as the Mittelbergferner, the Braunschweiger Hütte, the Mittagskogel, and the Taschach Gorge.

Sure-footedness and a head for heights are essential. Those starting with the medium-distance routes, such as the “P45 Glacier Trail,” should have experience in alpine trail running and marathon running to tackle the approximately 45 kilometers and 2,900 meters of elevation gain. The most challenging course is over 100 kilometers long and presents a serious challenge to extreme trail runners with a total elevation gain of 6,000 meters.

Children ages 3 to 12 can burn off energy on an obstacle course during the “P Kids Circuit,” while young trail runners ages 14 to 23 run approximately 8 kilometers with 640 meters of elevation gain in the “P Young Talents Race.”

Meanwhile, spectators can enjoy a supporting program in the valley featuring a food festival, expos, and a symposium.

In 2025, the Pitz Alpine Glacier Trail will be part of the renowned Golden Trail World Series.
