Event Rattenberger Advent

During Advent, Austria’s smallest town is bathed in a warm, atmospheric glow from candles, torches, and open fire pits. You won’t find any tacky market stalls here, but the stores in Rattenberg remain open. In addition, musicians, traditional folk groups, and a children’s train ride help create a festive Christmas atmosphere.

Candles in the windows, torches, and open fireplaces bathe the picturesque facades of the medieval houses in a warm, rustic light that conveys a sense of coziness. In Rattenberg, people largely do without artificial light on Advent weekends—doing away with the frantic flashing and garish displays of color that overshadow the Christmas spirit elsewhere. Instead: reflection, contemplation, and a focus on what truly matters—namely, bringing light into the darkness.

There are very few classic market stalls at the Rattenberg Advent. All of the town’s shops, as well as the famous glass art shops, have opened their doors and are offering their products. On Sundays, the Anklöpfler parade through the town, and anyone in the mood for a little taste experience should definitely try the Rattenberg Advent wine with elderberry flavor, served in the original Rattenberg Advent glass.

On Advent Saturdays, the Advent Scenic Train takes visitors from Brixlegg to Rattenberg and back again.
