Event Sonnwendfeuer in St. Johann in Tirol

St. Johann in Tirol, on 20. Jun 2026
expired

From the Harschbichl, a peak jutting out from the Kitzbüheler Horn, the view is breathtaking, especially of the Wilder Kaiser and the Loferer Steinberge. Once the solstice bonfires are lit, it’s hard to tear your eyes away from the sight.

We recommend because:

  • The Harschbichl offers one of the best vantage points for viewing the solstice bonfires in the northern Kitzbühel Alps
  • late-day runs down the valley are possible with the Harschbichl lifts

Description

On the mountain peaks around St. Johann in Tirol, Oberndorf, Kirchdorf, and Erpfendorf, numerous bonfires light up the night during the summer solstice. Locals call this “Feia brenna” (fires burning). To experience as many of these solstice fires as possible, it’s best to get a bird’s-eye view. The St. Johann mountain railways help with this, allowing guests to ride up to the 1,604-meter-high Harschbichl. From there, the view extends to the mountain fires on the Wilder Kaiser, the Loferer and Leoganger Steinberge, and the Kitzbüheler Horn.

The Harschbichlbahnen will run continuously until 9 p.m. on this evening. The descent is available until midnight.
