Red but beaming faces everywhere: every year, up to a thousand happy athletes, inspired by their experience of nature, arrive at the finish line of the Zillertal Steinbock March.
At the Zillertal Steinbock March and Steinbock Run, top sporting achievements are celebrated in style. The supporting program for the hiking and mountain running competitions includes a festival with a children's program, live music and, of course, award ceremonies.
The high mountain march leads along a 30-kilometre route 1,871 meters uphill and 1,610 meters downhill through the Zillertal Alps. It starts at 5 a.m. at the Ginzling Nature Park House in the rear Zillertal. The route leads through the Floitental valley to the Mörchnerscharte at 2,870 meters, the highest point of the hike. The descent takes you through the Zemmgrund, past the Berliner Hütte to your destination, the Alpengasthof Breitlahner.
As the hike leads through terrain with a partly high alpine character, participants should be in good physical condition, have good stamina, be sure-footed and have a head for heights. All participants receive an ibex march badge.
