Last-minute tips for late summer

Every year, insidiously and without any warning, but still expected, it comes from somewhere. That one sentence that is always said too early: "It's autumn!". You can no longer put off what you actually wanted to do this summer. You have to do it. And you have to do it now.

1. stargazing on the mountain

A picnic blanket under your arm and a spot in a meadow that is as dark as possible are ideal for observing. The ideal spot is high up on a mountain, where stars, aeroplanes and satellites seem close enough to touch.

2. collect cranberries or lingonberries

From a thousand metres above sea level, the bushes with the tasty blueberries can usually be found next to the hiking trails, for example in the direction of Rosskogelhütte, Oberperfuss. Berries that don't discolour my tongue when I pick them, because they always end up in my mouth, do so later at home as delicious cranberry dumplings. The cranberries are a culinary speciality as homemade jam, and not just as a side dish to game dishes.

3. sunrise on the mountain

Sunrise hikes in autumn in Tyrol are particularly pleasant as the temperatures are cooler and the air is clearer, which makes the view of the mountain landscape even more impressive. The sunrise is also later, so you can enjoy the hike without getting up too early.

4. barbecue

It's very simple. When summer shows its best side once again, it's time to be spontaneous. Charcoal, some barbecue food and drinks and off you go. It soon gets a bit chilly in the evening. All you need now is a light jacket, a fire and a guitar to keep you warm.

5. bathing in the waterfall

Still summer temperatures now? That's quite possible once again. Then the pools and waterfalls are wonderfully refreshing. And unbeatable in combination with a picnic. For example at the waterfall near Mötz, after the suspension bridge over the Inn on the right-hand side. But even if you don't want to get into the cool water, a tour to a waterfall is a lovely excursion.

6. eat ice cream or frozen yoghurt

The balmy summer evenings are numbered, but they can still reappear at the end of August and beginning of September. And with them the desire for ice cream or frozen yoghurt. A stroll through the capital, then to "Kurt" on the Burggraben in Innsbruck or one of the many other ice cream parlours.

7th open-air concerts

There's something about live music in the open air. Even if it's not your favourite band, the atmosphere of the fans is usually rousing and makes every concert in the open air a real experience. For example, one of the open-air concerts at Kufstein Fortress

8. bargain hunting

Even though most of the summer collections are already sold out at this time of year, you can still find some great pieces in Tyrolean shops. Although autumn is already scratching at the door and jumpers and jackets are now more in the interest of shopping queens, the next summer is sure to come. If you want to save money, buy now.

9th boat trip

For boating on the lakes in Tyrol, it is best to use the early morning hours or late afternoon, as the water is often calmer then. A look at the weather conditions and local regulations ensures a relaxed and safe time on the lake.

Ruderboot auf dem Piburger See

10. soak up the sun

Squirrels collect nuts for the winter, we should collect sunbeams. It's very simple. Be outside whenever the sun is warm. In gardens, by the river or stream, in the meadow, on the balcony! Because as the saying goes: "Those who enjoy the sun in summer carry it in their hearts in winter."
