Through gentle cultivation - mostly by hand, with minimal machine use and without chemical pesticides - soil fertility is improved in the long term. Humus building stores CO2, promotes soil life, and makes the areas more resilient to drought. Small, diversely planted areas provide habitats for insects, birds, and small animals - an important contribution against species extinction.
