The via ferrata Ilmspitze was already built in 1986 and ends at the summit of the impressive Ilmspitze above the Innsbrucker Hut in the Stubaier Alps. These rugged limestone peaks have a dolomite-like character.

Descent

Descend the upper third of the route and then follow the anchors briefly to the right. From where they end, follow the trail along the wall. Keep following the markings—there are some slightly tricky sections all the way to the base of the wall—and traverse westward along a delicate path back to the start (short uphill section). From there, continue as on the ascent.

Route description

The via ferrata consists of steep slabs, towers and embrasures and leads via passages from A-D directly to the summit. Highlights along the way: Spreading step over a deep gully, the clamp block chimney and the exit ridge. From the summit you have a breathtaking view of the surrounding mountains, the Stubaital and the Gschnitztal.
