Approach

From the parking lot at the sports field, follow the forest road towards Feuerstein or the "Sagenweg". After 100 meters, the "Sagenweg" branches off to the right from the forest road. Follow this initially quite steep path towards Feuerstein. Cross a suspension bridge and a wooden bridge to reach a clearing (power line corridor). Here you will find the sculpture "Enchanted Hare" (a hunter aiming at a hare). About 70 meters after this sculpture (sign for the Eckkamm via ferrata), turn left into the forest. The path leads directly to the rock face with a wire rope - "belaying and practice area". The actual entry point to the via ferrata is reached by following the path about 50 meters further uphill to the right. From the starting point at the sports field: approximately 40 minutes, 225 meters in elevation gain, 1.3 kilometers.

Descent

From the exit point, head 50 meters south (to the right) to the hiking trail that leads to the "Alpengasthof am Feuerstein". Follow this trail with slight ascents and descents to descend to the Feuerstein hut. From the exit point to the Alpengasthof am Feuerstein: 15 minutes, 80 meters in elevation gain, 570 meters. From the Alpengasthof, descend to Huben either via the forest road or the "Sagenweg". 45 minutes, 305 meters in elevation loss, 2.4 kilometers.

Route description

The via ferrata "Eckkamm" runs through the west face of the so-called "Eckkamm" at 1620 meters near Huben in the Ötztal valley. The elongated ridge of this ridge extends southwards from Huben and is forested at the base of the wall as well as in the exit area. Both to the entry point and the exit, a trail called the "Sagenweg" leads from Huben. At the saddle south of the exit lies the managed "Alpengasthof am Feuerstein," with a chapel and a viewing platform nearby.

The "Eckkamm" via ferrata ascends from the lower left to the upper right through the approximately 200-meter-high rock face, which is partially covered with trees and vegetation, and has about 160 meters in elevation gain. The difficulty of the via ferrata is mainly in the A and B range, with some sections reaching B/C. The climb takes about 1.5 hours. Many passages run horizontally or diagonally upwards to the right. The ascents over various "ramps" are generously equipped with step irons. There are three rope bridges, two rope ladders, and a small resting bench. The via ferrata is perfectly secured and has only a few short steep sections, making it particularly suitable for beginners. As the wall faces west, there is the opportunity to climb in the shade in the morning, especially during the hot summer months.

The via ferrata has been additionally equipped with a special safety system designed to enhance safety, particularly for beginners. A so-called push carabiner (available at the climbing and mountaineering shop "Alpintreff" in Unterlängenfeld) is threaded into the system and pushed along throughout the entire via ferrata. This additional push carabiner prevents unintentional unclipping of the entire via ferrata set, except at two points. At these two prepared interruptions, other climbers have the opportunity to overtake others using the same system.

Experienced climbers can also use a conventional via ferrata set.
