Description

From Brixlegg to the Berggasthof Holzalm

Above Brixlegg, east of the entrance to the Alpbach valley, the terrain undulates gently upwards to the famous Gratlspitze (1,893 m). The charming district of Zimmermoos captivates with its beautiful, scattered farmhouses and well-kept meadows. Through the settlement, the lightly trafficked public road climbs up to just before the Berggasthof Holzalm (1,452 m).

The ascent via Zimmermoos is very popular with cyclists, as well as the obligatory stop at the Berggasthof Holzalm. Here you not only enjoy the hospitality at the lodge but also the wonderful view. Among other sights, one can see the Rofan and the mountain scenery of Brandenberg. Shortly before the lodge, there is a clear eastward view towards the Kaisergebirge. From the lodge, you can ride over the Bischoferjoch (1,500 m) into the Alpbach valley and then return to Brixlegg on side roads.

Further into the Alpbach valley

After refreshment, continue to Alpbach. The Bischoferjoch, the crossing into the Alpbach valley at the ridge outlet leading west from the Gratlspitze, is quickly reached by bike. On the way to the Bischoferjoch (1,500 m), enjoy beautiful views down into the Inn valley, for example of Reith im Alpbachtal and the Reither lake. At the pass, the Alpbach valley opens up.

Nice descent to Alpbach and back to Brixlegg

From the Bischoferjoch, descend in switchbacks over the open alpine slope. The Almausschank Bischofer Käsalm (1,350 m) is passed, with or without stopping, and you nearly reach the village of Alpbach. However, you do not enter the village but follow the signs in the district of Außerland towards Brixlegg. Away from the main road to the Alpbach valley, which runs on the opposite valley side, you now roll on a beautiful little road connecting several hamlets back to Brixlegg.

Soon after crossing the Alpbach at Alpsteig, do not miss the right turn down to Mehrn (a narrow gravel road; do not enter Reith). This shortcut takes you in a beautiful ride back to Brixlegg.
