Description

From Oberau, the loop begins on MTB Route 355 heading towards Zauberwinkel (turnoff at the pizzeria). Just past the Zauberwinkel chapel, the route descends towards Wörgl. The 4 km forest road is well maintained and not too steep.

In Wörgl, the trail passes the Filz (a small moor area) and the shopping center, then crosses the main road to the other side onto the Inntal cycle path. It’s just under 5 easy kilometres to Kundl, and another 2 km to the ascent onto the Saulueg plateau. This is also the entrance to the Kundler Klamm. In the past, the road was open to public traffic, but today cyclists may only ride as far as the guesthouse.

A short detour is highly recommended – even just for a break – because the most challenging part of the tour follows. Uphill gradients of up to 12% must be tackled towards Saulueg. However, the road is paved, and you are repeatedly rewarded along the way with fantastic views of the Inntal valley.

The following gravel road, which remains open to the public, continues with gentle ups and downs to Hinterthierbach. Once you reach the village of Thierbach, a rest is well deserved, and you can already look forward to a rewarding descent back to Oberau through Mühltal.

Places to stop for refreshments include Jausenstation Zauberwinkel in Oberau, Gasthaus Kundler Klamm in Kundl, the traditional Sollererwirt inn, or Gasthaus Gradlspitz in Thierbach.
