We are still in the Lechtal Alps, which means that we are moving at spectacularly scenic heights, which are also extremely challenging from a mountaineering perspective. But, as the saying goes: no pain, no gain. We get the prize in the form of deep views with a lake view and a panoramic terrace with a hop drink.
A difficult stage on black mountain paths. Sure-footedness and alpine skills are required. A head for heights is required for the exposed passages. Steep climbs, partly secured by wire ropes, very narrow and steep. Extreme caution is required in wet conditions. Very good physical condition required.
Route description: From the Ansbacher Hütte, gently ascend on a good path up to the Flarschjoch (shortly below the pass, you can branch off to the Memminger Hütte). From the Flarschjoch, the trail leads gently down through scree and meadows towards Knappenböden and then through scree tracks almost flat over to the Alperschonjoch with the small cross. The trail then descends a little before leading back up (in serpentines) and finally down to the Vordersee. This passage through the southern slopes of the Vorderseespitze is called the Haas Trail. The Haas Trail mostly crosses meadows as well as steep, craggy rock faces and gullies (often insured).
From the Vordersee, the trail is initially moderately steep in the direction of the Hinterseejoch. Towards the pass, the climb becomes much steeper and winds its way up to the saddle on earthy ground. Beyond the Hinterseejoch, the trail descends moderately steeply - again in serpentines. The trail then crosses the scree to the west, descending slightly, and climbs again a little below the Kridlonscharte (earthy, sometimes slippery ground in this area). Finally, somewhat exposed in the rock with the help of wire ropes through a chimney up to the Kridlonscharte. On the other side, descend through mountain meadows and past a rocky outcrop. The trail leads westwards and crosses the slopes to the Kaiserjochhaus. The route, which is very narrow in places, leads through steep, sloping and rocky terrain (numerous secured passages) and always a little up and down. The last few meters through meadows to your destination.
