Description:
In the opposite direction of stage 4 of the Grenzgänger, the route leads to the Kanzberg. Initially, we ascend over the alpine meadows at the eastern edge of Hinterhornbach. A wide forest path leads into the Jochbachtal valley.
We leave this after a few minutes and climb steeply to the left on a narrow path. The dense forest occasionally clears to reveal views of the Hochvogel to our right. The forest becomes sparser and leads onto a wide larch slope. The path continues to climb steeply towards the Kanzberg. The ridge is covered entirely with grass. At the Kanzberg hut, just before the summit, there is a rest spot with panoramic views of the Lechtal mountains.
Initially, the path still leads over the gentle, wide grassy ridge before becoming a bit rockier on the south flank for the final ascent. The terrain becomes rockier. Ahead lies the summit of the Jochspitze, which can also be reached by a detour. We now climb over to the Hornbachjoch on the side of the Jochbachtal. Reaching this turning point requires sure-footedness in steep and rocky terrain. From the pass, there is a splendid view over the valley down to Hinterhornbach.
At this point, we leave the tracks of the Grenzgänger and descend steeply in switchbacks into the Jochbachtal. After the descent, a relaxed hike follows along the Jochbach, passing the Jochbachal huts back to the starting point.
