Mountain hikes Holzgau - Suspension bridge circuit

Holzgau / Allgäu Alps
Difficulty ratings: easy
Route length: 4.9 km
Duration: 1:30 h

Your heart is pounding here! Whether it's because of the 110 meters of air beneath your feet or because of the wildly romantic views of the Höhenbachtal gorge remains to be seen. Optionally, the suspension bridge circuit can be extended to include the Simms waterfall and a stop at Café Uta or the Roßgumpenalpe.

Tour character

A short but ascending asphalt path leads to the suspension bridge. On the 200-metre-long suspension bridge, be sure to take time for a look into the wild and romantic Höhenbachtal gorge! Afterwards, the tour can be extended by a stop at Café Uta or by a longer stretch to the Roßgumpenalm and hike out through the Höhenbachtalschlucht gorge, where you can admire the suspension bridge from below. Both detours lead past the Simms waterfall. If you don't extend your hike, you can return to Holzgau via a leisurely and easy forest path.

Equipment

Good equipment is essential for your hike. The following items should definitely be in your rucksack: - Food and drink - Functional clothing for rain, wind and cold - A change of clothes - Sun protection - First aid kit - Mobile phone with a full battery (Euro emergency number 112) - Hiking map or GPS - Hiking poles Nevertheless, the following applies: light luggage is also easier to carry, so you should not weigh down your rucksack with unnecessary ballast. In addition, your hiking equipment should of course also be adapted to your particular hiking tour.

Description

You hike up to the signpost "Hängebrücke über Gföll" (suspension bridge over Gföll)
to the church, then follow the slightly ascending path to the suspension bridge.
On the other side of the bridge, walk along the flat path in the direction of "Schiggen".
Continue across meadows, wooden footbridges and later along a slightly descending forest path to the "Holzgau" junction. Here you leave the "Lechweg" and walk the last stretch past the Hotel Winkler Hof on the old village road back to your starting point.
This is a rope suspension bridge that spans the wild and romantic Höhenbachtal gorge. It is the highest and longest free pedestrian suspension bridge in Austria.
