Brief description of Jungholz:In 1342, Jungholz became part of the German-speaking region of Tyrol as an enclave following its sale by Hermann Häselin of Wertach to Heinz Lochpühler from the Tannheim Valley. This village of 294 residents is Tyrol’s first “herbal mountain village.” In the summer, it’s mainly the hiking trails and the herbs that make Jungholz attractive. In the winter, the snow enchants the mountain village. Hiking and skiing are the order of the day. Thanks to the modern snowmaking system, snow is guaranteed.
From the parking lot by the ski lifts, head toward the church. At the bandstand, turn right onto Schnitzerweg. Follow this “Art Trail” to the Langenschwand district and continue to the edge of town. Here, the trail branches off to the left toward the Stubental Alpe. After a break—either on foot or by toboggan, which can be rented at the hut—head back to Langenschwand, where a signpost by the chapel points to the right onto the Panoramaweg. The Panoramaweg leads above Jungholz to the hamlet of Gießenschwand and offers beautiful views along the way. Shortly before Gießenschwand, the trail descends into the village. Pass through the village and turn left at the main road, continuing on to the church. To the right of the church are the parking lots and the starting point of the hike. Several places to stop for refreshments make the cool winter temperatures easier to bear.
