Eagle Walk - Stages in the Wilder Kaiser Mountains

Literally meaning "Wild Emperor", the Wilder Kaiser is a chain of mountains famous for its craggy and exposed appearance. It is, however, possible to hike through these imposing mountains on three stages of the Eagle Walk.

Hike Description

Three-day Eagle Walk section through the Wilder Kaiser. The route of stage one leads from St. Johann past the Schleier waterfall and the Obere Regalm to the first stage destination, the Gaudeamushütte at 1,267 metres above sea level. The second stage runs along the Klammlsteig trail with a view of a special natural jewel: the Hintersteiner See lake. The third and final stage in the Wilder Kaiser finally leads to the pretty town of Kufstein on the Inn river.

! Attention trail closure stage 2 !

Due to woodwork after the hail damage in June 2024, the Wilder Kaiser Trail (WKS) No. 823 must be closed.
Estimated duration: 17 June - 27 June 2025

Diversions option: The alternative route leads via the Riedlhütte to the Kaiseralm and Steiner-Hochalm. An additional walking time of approx. 1h to 1h 15min must be calculated for the section between the WKS/Gruttenhütten junction and Steiner-Hochalm.

Alternative: Descent from the Gruttenhütte to the Wochenbrunner Alm and with the hiking buses to Hintersteiner See. From there, take trail no. 45a to the Walleralm and continue to the Kaindlhütte.
