Medium-difficulty stage on red mountain paths. Sure-footedness and basic alpine knowledge required. A good level of fitness is required.
Route description: The first stage of the Adlerweg starts at the train station in St. Johann in Tirol. Those arriving by car can use the public parking lot at Steinlechnerplatz/Dampflfeld (Euro 2.00 per day), which is around 400 meters from the tourist office. The trail leads northwest of the village center to the traditional Gasthaus Rummlerhof in the Hinterkaiser district. From the Rummlerhof inn, walk west along a narrow, asphalt road to the Maurerhof and follow the signs for "Schleierwasserfall". Continue left past the farmhouse (house number 80), the path leads moderately steeply uphill into the forest. Then cross a forest road, follow the red and white markings on the path and walk uphill along the stream. The trail joins a forest path, keep left here and a short time later turn right again towards the "Schleierwasserfall" waterfall. Follow trail marker no. 822 until you reach the Schleierwasserfall.
The trail continues along a forest path (secured by ropes) to Diebsöfen, where a stream flows under a rock face with a cave. Climb down into the stream bed and into the cave, following the markings. Follow the path from Diebsöfen up to the Schleier waterfall. From the Schleier waterfall, head south on trail no. 818 to the first fork in the forest path and continue northwest across the alpine meadows to the Stiegenbach waterfall. From here, continue in the direction of "Obere Regalm" or "Gaudeamushütte". In this area, the trail runs downhill again in the open alpine pasture area and later leads as a road to the "Obere Regalm".
Above the hut in the direction of "Gaudeamushütte" on the hiking trail in open terrain up to a ridge. The mountaineer's grave on the Brennenden Palven is located right next to the ridge. Beyond the saddle, the trail with trail number 824 leads directly past the Freiberghütte and descends quite quickly to the stage destination Gaudeamushütte (1,270 meters), where a comfortable overnight stay awaits.
