Description

It is also known as the "white roof" of the Innsbruck Olympic region. The Axamer Lizum ski area on the edge of the Stubai Alps is only 19 kilometers away from the Tyrolean capital and yet offers a wonderful high alpine winter landscape against the backdrop of the mighty Kalkkögel mountains. A decent range of pistes provides beginners, advanced skiers and experts with a good basis for an eventful day's skiing.

Skiing in the sun is longer fun in the Axamer Lizum. Thanks to the altitude (1,540 - 2,340 m) and comprehensive snow-making facilities, winter sports enthusiasts can make their turns from November to April. Some of the pistes are known from the 1964 and 1976 Winter Olympics, as numerous competitions were held on them. Most of them are marked in red, but there are also a few blue runs and one black run. When the snow conditions are good, the Birgitzköpfle opposite the main slopes becomes an absolute hotspot for freeriders. You can then return to the valley station via fantastic deep-snow slopes or take the kilometer-long descent via the Mutterer Alm ski area down to Götzens.

Snowboarders and freestylers meet up in the Golden Roofpark at the Karleiten lift. At the valley station of the Olympiabahn, beginners can try out their first turns on the two practice lifts. For a break in between, there are several restaurants to choose from, especially the Hoadl-Haus panorama restaurant with Austria's largest covered sun terrace at an altitude of 2,340 meters. By the way: skiers can also reach the Axamer Lizum with a free shuttle bus from Innsbruck.
