What other town in Tyrol can claim to have hosted ski races regularly since the 19th century? Kitzbühel can, because it was in 1893 that Franz Reisch became the first person in Austria to complete a high-alpine ski descent on the Kitzbüheler Horn. That was when the Kitzbühel legend was born—a legacy that lives on today, above all, through the legendary Hahnenkamm Race and the infamous Streif. Winter sports enthusiasts who aren’t part of the world’s elite also benefit from this. After all, the ski area around the Kitzbüheler Horn and Hahnenkamm, with its extensive range of slopes, is now one of the most popular in the Alps.
Snowboard fun parks, many beautiful ski routes for freeride enthusiasts, modern lifts, and an abundance of cozy ski huts and snack bars characterize this vast ski area. Experienced skiers should definitely tackle the Streif, which ranks among the most challenging race courses in the world. Although it sits at a relatively moderate altitude of up to 2,000 meters, the ski area enjoys excellent snow conditions between December and April.
Kitzbühel also stands out for its easy accessibility and its famous lifestyle vibe. The high concentration of boutiques, award-winning restaurants, and bars ensures that there’s always something to experience and enjoy after a fulfilling day on the slopes.
The ski buses run between all the valley stations of the KitzSki access lifts and the towns in the surrounding communities. The train station is located right next to the valley station of the Hahnenkammbahn.
