Short, easy tour along fields and larch meadows to the Weißen Wandl above Matrei.
From Obfeldes, a small hamlet above the village of Matrei, the trail leads through fields past the last farms to the forest border. There you first change to a sunken path that gradually changes into sparse larch meadows. Finally you reach a small clearing with a great view of the nearby Serles, and a small chapel is also visible. After a short section through a denser forest, you reach larch meadows again, which continue almost up to the ridge and which you can climb up in beautiful wide arches. After a last short stretch along the ridge, you finally reach the inconspicuous summit cross, which surprises you with a great view over the Wipptal valley. The descent back to Matrei through the beauty of the sparse forests also has a lot to offer.
ROUTE DESCRIPTION
From Obfeldes (Netscher Hof - reachable on foot from Matrei through the motorway subway shortly before the slip road to the A13), first follow the course of a small valley across fields in a westerly direction up to the last houses around the Kugler Hof. At a fenced cross-street bordered by trees, turn left and, after crossing a small stream, follow it again in a westerly direction along a sunken path in the dense spruce forest. On this hollow path, you climb in an almost constant direction up to approx. 1300 m. There, you turn into a long path. There you turn north in a long, somewhat flatter curve and reach a small clearing with a chapel at the edge of a larch meadow - an ideal place for a short rest. With the clearing, you also change direction again to the southwest and thus reach a somewhat denser passage along the summer path up to further, extensive larch meadows. Here the ascent track can be nicely followed up to the ridge. There you change to the ridge and cover the last 200 m to the summit with some difficulty.
Descent in the upper area near the ascent track, from the clearing you can also ski along the sparse larch forests past the Kuglerhof directly down.
