In the middle of the Wilder Kaiser nature reserve lies the natural jewel Hintersteiner See - a crystal-clear and refreshing mountain lake, which is a particularly popular bathing lake with a large sunbathing lawn, kiosk and sun lounger, parasol and stand-up paddle hire.

Description

The Hintersteiner See - a natural jewel with drinking water quality!
Underground springs fill it with mountain-fresh water, reflecting the imposing mountain peaks on its surface. However, what is truly unique is to bathe in its refreshing and crystal-clear water on a hot summer day or after an extensive hike in the Kaisergebirge. In the summer months, it warms up to an average temperature between 20 and 22 degrees.

* Open from May to September (depending on weather conditions)
* Opening hours: Open daily; on rainy and cool days with unstable weather, opening hours will be adjusted at short notice.

* Kiosk with drinks & snacks, sanitary facilities, and changing options
* Dogs are only allowed on the terrace by the kiosk. Dogs are not allowed on the lawn and in the water.
* Rental of sunbeds & umbrellas and SUP is possible
* Lockers can be rented for a day

GETTING THERE & PARKING

* Address: Hinterstein 57, 6351 Scheffau am Wilden Kaiser

* Without a car - take the free hiking bus to Hintersteiner See: from May to October a shuttle bus runs several times daily from the village center of Scheffau to the lake & back, which can be used for free with the Wilder Kaiser Card or a valid lift ticket. Additionally, there is a Park & Ride parking lotnext to the gas station in Scheffau, from where the hiking bus also runs several times daily to the lake & back. Timetable at: www.wilderkaiser.info/mobil

Arrival by public transport
KaiserJet or bus stop "Scheffau Dorf," or “Scheffau Bergbahn-P&R Hintersteiner See” and then take the hiking bus Hintersteiner See to "Seestüberl Strandbad".

* By car: there is a paid parking option for cars on the east shore of the lake directly at the beach.
Buses and motorhomes are not allowed to park there. Buses over 10m in length are not allowed to drive to the lake(narrow, winding road). During peak parking times at the lake, the road from Scheffau may be closed at short notice.
