In the middle of the Wilder Kaiser nature reserve lies the natural jewel Hintersteiner See - a crystal-clear and refreshing mountain lake, which is a particularly popular bathing lake with a large sunbathing lawn, kiosk and sun lounger, parasol and stand-up paddle hire.

Description

The Hintersteiner Lake - a natural gem with drinking water quality!
Underground springs fill it with mountain-fresh water, reflecting the impressive mountain peaks on its surface. However, what makes it truly unique is swimming in its refreshing and crystal-clear water on a hot summer day or after an extensive hike in the Kaiser Mountains. In the summer months, it warms to an average temperature between 20 and 22 degrees.

BEACH 
* Grass area on the eastern shore of Hintersteiner Lake
* Open from May to September (depending on the weather)
* Opening hours: Open daily; changes to opening hours may occur on rainy days or cool days with unstable weather.

* Kiosk with drinks & snacks, sanitary facilities and changing options
* Dogs are only allowed on the terrace by the kiosk. Dogs are not allowed on the sunbathing lawn and in the water.
* Rentals of sun loungers & umbrellas and SUP are possible
* Lockers can be rented by the day

ARRIVAL & PARKING

* Address for navigation: Hinterstein 57, 6351 Scheffau am Wilden Kaiser

* Without a car - taking the free hiking bus to Hintersteiner Lake: from May to October, a shuttle bus runs several times a day from the village center Scheffau to the lake & back, which can be used for free with the Wilder Kaiser Card or a valid lift ticket. Additionally, there is a Park & Ride parking lotnext to the gas station in Scheffau, from there the hiking bus also runs several times a day to the lake & back. Timetable at: www.wilderkaiser.info/mobil

Arrival by public transport
KaiserJet or bus stop "Scheffau Dorf", or “Scheffau Bergbahn-P&R Hintersteiner See” and then take the hiking bus to Hintersteiner Lake until "Seestüberl Strandbad".

* By car: for cars, there is a paid parking option on the eastern shore of the lake directly next to the beach. 
Buses and motorhomes are not allowed to park there. Buses over 10m in length are not permitted to drive to the lake(narrow, winding road). In case of overcrowding of the parking spaces at the lake, the road from Scheffau may be closed at short notice.
