Trail condition

The composition of the trail varies between snow-covered forest path, meadow and forest trail.

Please note: This tour is only possible in absolutely safe avalanche conditions. The section after the Kaiseralm in the direction of Schießling should only be attempted with avalanche experience and avalanche equipment. The tour is at your own risk.

Equipment

Snowshoes suitable for your height and weight. Important: sturdy boots or mountain boots.
Depending on the tour, avalanche equipment (avalanche transceiver, probe & shovel).
Outdoor clothing suitable for the weather (breathable) incl. a change of clothes, sun protection (sunglasses, sun cream, lip protection, headgear), protection against precipitation (rain jacket/poncho, peek-a-boo, rucksack protection), protection against the cold (hat, gloves), food and drink (plenty to drink - warm drinks and snacks), possibly hiking poles (height-adjustable). Hiking poles (height-adjustable and with large plates), first aid equipment incl. rescue blanket & bivouac sack, cell phone with fully charged battery, headlamp, plastic bag for waste, hiking map, tour description and information material (GPX track), ID, insurance card, cash

Description

From the Wegscheid parking lot below theJägerwirt restaurant , hike along the forest road towards Wegscheidalm. The narrow wooden bridge over the Wegscheidbach stream is the first key point of the tour with snowshoes. After reaching the Wegscheid-Niederalm, leave the forest road and follow the footpath to the left towards Kaiseralm. After approx. 350 m you cross the Wegscheidbach stream a second time. Keep left and after a short ascent you can already see the Kaiseralm. You hike in a straight line across the snow-covered alpine meadows to the hut. Now you head downhill again. Follow the road in a south-westerly direction - signposted Gaisberg parking lot - and shortly before reaching the Schießlinghöfe farms , turn left and follow the footpath via the Treffern farm to the Restaurant Jägerwirt. This is also the only refreshment stop on this snowshoe tour.
