Snowshoe hike on the south side of the Markbachjoch
A leisurely ascent with the Markbachjochbahn to the Markbachjoch. Once at the top, you can enjoy the wonderful view - not far from the mountain station is a beautiful cross with a view to the north.
The hike starts at the left edge of the piste in the direction of Holzalm/West. The signs to the Holzalm (also known as Kasalm) lead through the forest on the left, with beautiful views of the tranquil Penningberg and Brixental Valley. After the forest opens up, you are already in the middle of the extensive alpine pasture area.
If you like, take advantage of the wide meadows here and, if the snow allows it, head cross-country towards the reservoir. The terrain is quite clear when visibility is good. You come to a forest road above the pond and follow this up to the Holzalm (not open in winter). An enjoyable rest on the sunny side of the Markbachjoch is definitely worthwhile here.
Return along the upper forest road back towards the forest from which you came and the ski area.
Note: Please bear in mind that you are partly in open terrain. Please inform yourself about the current avalanche situation at http://lawine.report
Tip: The tour is offered as a guided snowshoe tour as part of the winter hiking program!
