Description

This is a cleared winter hiking trail. However, icy or slippery spots may still occur.

This scenic winter hut hike begins at car park P15 near the music pavilion in Weidach (Leutasch). Ample parking spaces and a toilet are available on-site, and the “Weidach Zentrum” bus stop is in close proximity.

From the music pavilion, the route initially follows the road towards Oberweidach. Right from the start, beautiful views of the striking Hohe Munde unfold. After a short distance, the trail branches off to the left, crosses a small bridge, and at the junction near Hotel Kristall, it continues to the right towards Seewald. Following the road, the path climbs steadily uphill to a small turning point where the asphalt ends and the cleared winter hiking trail begins.

From here, the trail steadily ascends through the wintery forest landscape up to the Katzenkopfhütte (1,360 m). Since this route is also used as a toboggan run in winter, and the path crosses the ski slope at one point, special caution is advised for oncoming traffic!Toboggans can be rented at the valley stationfor a small fee, if needed. Alternatively, from the Katzenkopfhütte, other winter hiking trails lead towards Wildmoos, Seefeld, and Mösern.

Once at the top, an impressive panorama over the Leutasch Valley opens up, with stunning views of the Wetterstein mountains and the Hohe Munde. The spacious sun terrace and the cozy indoor area of the Katzenkopfhütte invite you to relax and enjoy a break.

The return follows the same route back to the starting point in Weidach. If you wish to unwind further, the ErlebnisWelt Alpenbad Leutasch offers additional relaxation opportunities.

The tour can be customized individually:
• If you wish to shorten the ascent or descent, you can alternatively start at the Katzenkopf lift (parking available at P14) and use the chairlift as an ascent aid.
• Toboggans can be rented at the valley station of the Katzenkopf lift or brought along to enjoy the route downhill as a toboggan run. Be sure to watch out for oncoming traffic!
• If you wish to extend the winter hike, you can continue from the Katzenkopfhütte towards Wildmoos, Seefeld, or Mösern.
