First the reward, then the work. Or was it the other way around? It doesn't matter anyway - for us, the effort is also a reward, as is the amazing view at the highest point and the enjoyable refreshment stop. So for this hike, the following actually applies: first the reward, then the reward ...
Medium-difficulty circular hike from the center of Kirchberg. A well-maintained forest road leads up the mountain through the forest. Partly in serpentines, you reach the highest point at 1438 meters directly below the summit of the Rauhen Kopf. Time to enjoy the unique view of Kirchberg, the Grosser Rettenstein and the Kitzbühel Alps. From here you hike downhill over the Hinterer Sonnberg. Halfway down, the rustic Gasthof Ruetzen invites you to take a delicious break.
This moderately difficult hike leads from the centre of Kirchberg, past the Neuwirt farm shop, through the subway and then along the Weinbergweg and Sonnbergstraße to the Filzerhof.
Leaving the Filzerhof behind us, we follow the forest path prepared for a winter hike, which is signposted in magenta. The path leads us to the highest point, just below the Rauhen Kopf, the ascent to the summit cross is only possible in summer or with snowshoes. A fantastic panoramic view in all directions is the reward for the ascent - the view of Kirchberg and the Spertental valley with the striking large Rettenstein is unique! At the beginning of the descent, it is worth taking a short detour over to the Kaiserblick, an impressive view of the rocky Gebiergszug. The descent leads over the Hinterer Sonnberg with a refreshment stop at the Ruetzenhof. From here, we walk downhill past the Stockerbauer farm through the Spertendorf district to the main road. We cross this road, turn left and take the meadow path on the right towards the railway line. After a small subway, the footpath runs along the railway tracks back to the village centre.
