In the middle of the Wilder Kaiser nature reserve lies the natural jewel Hintersteiner See - a crystal-clear and refreshing mountain lake, which is a particularly popular bathing lake with a large sunbathing lawn, kiosk and sun lounger, parasol and stand-up paddle hire.

Hintersteiner See - a natural gem with drinking water quality!
Underground springs fill it with mountain-fresh water, reflecting the imposing mountain peaks on its surface. However, what is truly unique is bathing in its refreshing and crystal-clear water on a hot summer day or after an extensive hike in the Kaiser Mountains. During the summer months, it warms to an average temperature between 20 and 22 degrees.

BEACH AREA 
* Grass area on the eastern shore of Hintersteiner See
* Open from May to September (depending on weather conditions)
* Opening hours: Open daily; during rain and on cool days with unstable weather, the opening hours will be adjusted at short notice.

* Kiosk with drinks & snacks, sanitary facilities and changing options
* Dogs are allowed only on the terrace at the kiosk. Dogs are not allowed on the grass area and in the water.
* Rental of sun lounger & umbrella and SUP possible
* Lockers can be rented on a daily basis

ARRIVAL & PARKING

* Address for arrival: Hinterstein 57, 6351 Scheffau am Wilden Kaiser

* Without a car - take the free hiking bus to Hintersteiner See: from May to October a shuttle bus runs several times a day from the village center of Scheffau to the lake & back, which can be used for free with the Wilder Kaiser Card or a valid lift ticket. Additionally, there is a park and ride parking lot next to the gas station in Scheffau, from there the hiking bus also runs several times a day to the lake & back. Timetable available at: www.wilderkaiser.info/mobil

Arrival by public transport
KaiserJet or bus stop "Scheffau Dorf", or “Scheffau Bergbahn-P&R Hintersteiner See” and then take the hiking bus to Hintersteiner See until "Seestüberl Strandbad".

* By car: there is a paid parking option for cars on the eastern shore of the lake directly at the beach area. 
Buses and motorhomes are not allowed to park. Buses over 10m in length are not allowed to drive to the lake (narrow, winding road).
