Berliner Hütte

The Berliner Hütte (2,042 metres) is a majestic and historic alpine hut in the Zillertal Alps – and Austria's only mountain refuge with protected status.

Greizer Hütte, 7.5 hours
Schwarzensteinhütte (Rif. al Sasso Nero), 5 hours
Chemnitzer Hütte (Rif. Porro), 5 hours
The Berliner Hütte is located on the Berlin High Trail (Stage 3/4), a challenging long-distance trek.
German Alpine Club, Berlin Division

The Berliner Hütte stands tall and proud at Schwarzensteinalm in the Upper Zemmgrund, surrounded by several three-thousand-metre-high peaks. “She” has every reason to be proud, as her impressive history stretches back to the 19th century. Originally built in 1878 and opened in 1879, various alternations and extension works followed and in 1889 the refuge became an important base along the newly inaugurated Berlin High Trail. A post office was even established within the hut in 1906. Declared a listed building in 1997, the wooden panelling alone in the dining hall is well worth the visit. Walkers and hikers can savour delicious meals in a stylish alpine environment. The  Schwarzensee lake is just a short distance above the Berlin High Trai, and there is a rock climbing area only a 15-minute walk from the Berliner Hütte.

How to get to the Berliner Hütte
