In many Tirolean communities, farming folk celebrate the end of the harvest season and give thanks for their thriving crops and rich harvests. The main element of this festival is ceremonial mass, during which the farm products are blessed.
The “Harvest Crown” plays an important role in this custom. It is lavishly embellished with box tree branches, sheaves of grain, flowers and crops and serves as a graphic symbol of the harvested crops. Local young men carry the crown through the village after mass as part of the thanksgiving procession.
