Out of the car and straight to the destination? Not here! Because if you want to cool off in this cave and its constant 0° Celsius, you first have to warm up on a hike. It's a little longer, but very easy. We promise.

We recommend because:

...some of the dripstones were formed before the Riss glacial period, i.e. before mammoths or even Neanderthals existed. Pretty amazing, isn't it?

The Ice and Dripstone Cave Hundsalm is a fascinating natural treasure trove that transports visitors into a world of icy formations and glistening stalactites. Nestled amidst the impressive mountain landscape, the cave offers a unique experience. Discover the impressive beauty of the underground formations and learn more about the geological wonders crafted over time.

The only ice cave in western Austria which is open to the public is located on the high plateau of Angerberg, about 2,9 km northeast from Mariastein. The main entrance is at 1520m above sea level. The cave can be reached in a hike along a marked trail either from the Inn Valley via Buchacker Alm or from Hinterthiersee via Köglalm and Hundalm.

Dogs are not allowed!.

In the cave there is a temperature of approx. 0° Celsius.
Sturdy shoes and warm clothes are recommended.
