Description

Since 1998, a small sacred work of art has stood on the Pitztal Glacier at an altitude of 2,900 metres: the Chapel of White Light, which, with its gleaming white Carrara marble, forms a striking contrast to the surrounding red rock. Carrara marble is also the best-known and highest-quality natural stone in the world.

The chapel was created by the Tyrolean artist Rudi Wach (born 1934), who lives in Milan. Like a sculpture, the chapel was intended to stand on its own yet blend into the white mountain landscape. It was important to the sculptor and artist Rudi Wach that his structure should not compete with nature created by God, but rather honour it by using a white sculpture to make the beauty of the mountain landscape shine even more brightly.
