Description

At the foot of the Vilsegg castle ruins, directly on the Pfronten-Vils GEO path, is the historic hammer mill of Vils, which served the Lords of Hohenegg as an armory in the Middle Ages. Together with the ruins of Vilsegg castle and the small romantic church of St. Anna, this ensemble is a unique rarity in Tyrol. Inside the hammer mill there is an exhibition dealing with the topics of iron production in the Middle Ages, armourers, Engelbert Hartmann (one of the last smiths) and the visits of the Royal Bavarian family of Ludwig II. Guided tours of the hammer mill can be arranged at www.hammerschmiede-vils.at.
