The Celtic Tree Circle in Vils connects nature and mythology – and invites you to discover your own life tree.
The Celtic Tree Circle in Vils is a special place where nature and Celtic mythology meet. Based on the more than 3,000 years old Celtic tree calendar, 22 native tree species have been planted here, each associated with certain human qualities. The Celts believed that every person is connected to a specific tree that reflects their character traits and strengths. Visitors can find out which tree corresponds to their Celtic horoscope based on their date of birth – even if a scientific connection has not been proven.
However, the Vils Tree Teaching Trail is intended not only to awaken fascination for Celtic culture but also to deepen knowledge about local flora. Informative panels describe the individual trees and their special characteristics. Each tree in the circle is unique, grows under different conditions, and develops in its own way – just like every person. This symbolism invites reflection on nature connection and individuality.
In addition to the educational component, the Tree Circle also offers a quiet retreat in the midst of nature. In close proximity, there is a viewpoint from which the river area of Vils can be overseen. Here, visitors can observe various bird species and enjoy the relaxing atmosphere.
The Celtic Tree Circle was established as a community project of the Vils primary school in collaboration with the municipality of Vils, the tourism association, the LIFE project Wild River Landscape Tyrolean Lech, and numerous local businesses. The implementation was carried out with a lot of commitment and attention to detail to create a sustainable place of encounter between humans and nature. Visitors are asked to respect the Tree Circle, to leave no litter, and to protect the natural surroundings so that this special place remains preserved for the future.
