Attraction Naturparkhaus Klimmbrücke

Elmen

It’s an unusual sight: Perched atop the central support of the 87-meter-long suspension bridge spanning the riverbed is the Tyrolean Lechtal Nature Park Visitor Center. It’s a welcome and informative stop for cyclists and hikers.

We recommend because:

  • The Nature Park Center stands on a bridge over the Lech River near Elmen—an extraordinary location in the heart of the wild river habitat
  • The “Adventure: Wild River” exhibition uses interactive displays to teach visitors about the wild river habitat
  • The Nature Park Center provides information about the Tiroler Lech Nature Park and serves as the starting point for guided tours. Outside, there’s also a nature park playground

Description

A nature park visitor center right in the middle of a bridge—that’s probably a one-of-a-kind sight in the Alps. From the center of the Klimm Bridge near Elmen, you have a breathtaking view of the wide riverbed of the Lech, arguably the last untamed wild river in the Northern Alps. The building serves as the headquarters of the nature park administration and provides visitors with information about the distinctive features as well as the rare animals and plants of this unique natural landscape. The outdoor area is also ideal for a relaxing break, for example for cyclists and hikers traveling along the Lech Trail or the Lech Cycle Path. While the adults learn about the area in the outdoor exhibition, the children can run around on the nature playground with its climbing structures and green maze.
