Description

A piece of recent history can be found in the centre of Reutte. In 1939, all inhabitants of South Tyrol were officially given the choice of staying in Italy or changing their nationality and emigrating to the German Reich. Housing was needed for the South Tyrolean emigrants in their new homeland - so a South Tyrolean settlement was also built in Reutte, which is still completely preserved. The façades of the houses were decorated with numerous depictions that reflected the ideology of the time and are well worth a visit. A show flat, the "South Tyrolean Settlement Memorial", can be visited by appointment and shows the living conditions of the first resettlers.
