Panoramic roads in Tyrol

Some Alpine roads in Tyrol are also open in winter, such as the Kaunertal Glacier Road and the Kühtai High Alpine Road. These can be used all year round due to their altitude and regular snow clearance. However, other roads such as the Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road are only accessible during the summer months as they are closed in winter due to snow and ice.

Some of the most famous Alpine roads that lead above 2,000 meters are the Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road (2,474 meters), the Kaunertal Glacier Road (2,750 meters) and the Grossglockner High Alpine Road (2,504 meters).

The Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road is particularly popular with motorcyclists, as it is winding and challenging and offers fascinating views of the surrounding mountain panorama. There is also a motorcycle museum to visit here.

The Alpine roads in Tyrol offer numerous leisure activities such as hiking, cycling, photography, mountain biking and visits to glaciers and mountain pastures. Some roads also offer cable car-supported excursions and boat trips on mountain lakes.

The best time to drive along the Alpine roads in Tyrol is in spring and summer, from May to October. This is when the roads are usually open, the weather is pleasant and nature is in its full glory.
