Between Carinthia and South Tyrol, surrounded by over 200 three-thousanders lies East Tyrol, the mountainous region straight out of a picture book. The lush green meadows and pastures cling in the north to the “sunny side” of the mighty Hohe Tauern mountain range, dominated by its highest peaks Großglockner (3,798m) and Großvenediger (3,674m). To the south, the dark, dreamy forests extend up to the rugged limestone cliffs of the Lienz Dolomites. So protected and nestled, East Tyrol enjoys an exceptionally mild climate and many sunny days resulting in a unique and almost intact flora and fauna to this day.
