Snow-covered trails in Tyrol

Snow is guaranteed thanks to modern snow-making facilities. Many of the main cross-country ski trails in Tyrol, such as in the Seefeld region or in the Tannheimer Tal, are equipped with artificial snowmaking, which means that the trails can be covered with snow and groomed from a certain temperature, even if there is a lack of natural snow.

Most snow-covered cross-country ski trails are usually open from December to the end of March, depending on the snow conditions and temperatures. In regions where snow is guaranteed, such as the Seefeld region with Leutasch or the Hochpustertal, you can often be out and about on the cross-country ski trails from as early as November.

For cross-country skiing on snow-covered trails in Tyrol, you will need the usual cross-country skiing equipment, such as cross-country skis, poles, cross-country boots and weatherproof and breathable clothing. In many places you can hire your equipment conveniently on site.

In the Seefeld region, snow farming is used to enable an early start to the cross-country skiing season while conserving resources. The almost 3 kilometre-long snowfarming trail in Leutasch enables cross-country skiing in the Seefeld region from November. In addition to Seefeld, the Obertilliach cross-country and biathlon centre in East Tyrol also relies on snow farming to offer cross-country skiers perfect conditions in early winter. Snowfarming reduces dependence on artificial snow, saves water and energy and ensures a sustainable start to the cross-country skiing season.
