The Best High-Altitude Cross-Country Skiing Trails in Tirol

When late summer is in its final stages in the valleys, there is often already snow higher up. That is when many Tirolean regions open up their first high-altitude trails and glacier trails. This is a particularly good time to strap on your cross-country skis and hit the trails. We have compiled a list of the most beautiful cross-country ski trails.

The high-altitude trails with guaranteed snow are the first to open in Tirol, especially the glacier trails. Cross-country skiing is sometimes possible there as early as September. Hot candidates are the trails on the Pitztal Glacier and in the neighbouring Rifflsee ski area, on the Stubai Glacier, as well as high-altitude trails in Nauders, in the Upper Ötztal Valley and in Sellrain. 

There are high-altitude cross-country ski trails in almost all regions of Tirol. The glacier trails in particular – on the Pitztal Glacier and Stubai Glacier, for example – are known for their snowsure trails.
