The Black Lake will probably look more like a white lake if you head there via this cross-country trail. The trailhead is above the “Tiefes Gatter,” which isn’t deep at all—it’s actually over 1,500 meters above sea level. Even if everything seems a bit confusing at first, you’ll find the right path—or the left one—once you’re on the trail.
A challenging cross-country skiing loop with stunning views above Nauders, leading through tranquil winter landscapes to the picturesque marshlands of the Schwarzer See. The route often follows a gentle elevation profile with views of the surrounding peaks and offers unspoiled panoramic vistas right in the heart of the Tyrol–Switzerland–South Tyrol border triangle. Along the way, the Riatschhof Inn provides a cozy place to stop for a break.
The trail starts above the "Tiefer Gatter" and leads to the natural jewel of the Schwarzer See. The special thing about it is that the start of the cross-country trail is just above 1,574 metres. Once you reach the top, you will experience a breathtaking winter landscape in the Tyrolean mountains. Stop for refreshments at the Riatschhof.
Tip: The best way to get to the start is on foot. (Footpath approx. 30 minutes from the Mutzkopf valley station).
