Description

A simple but long tour in the valley, starting in Niederau.
First, follow the main road to Oberau, passing the church, which is one of the largest in the Tyrolean lowlands.
The route continues through Oberau and turns left into the district of Roggenboden to the Hotel Silberberger.
Directly at the hotel, the route climbs uphill to a sharp bend (signposted MTB route).
From here, it descends again via the Schrattentalweg trail to the center of the next village, Auffach.
The route passes the interesting Wood Museum and the Schatzbergbahn cable car – always downhill on asphalt and slightly uphill. The destination is the Schönangeralm with the Schönanger inn.
With every step, the traces of civilization become fewer. You find yourself more and more in alpine pastureland, as evidenced by the numerous cattle grids you have to cross.
From the pond, which already belongs to the Schönangeralm, the basin of the rearmost Wildschönau opens up – perhaps the most beautiful end of the Wildschönau.
The last few meters to the inn, where you can enjoy a well-deserved break, are soon behind you.
This is also where the official road ends with a barrier. The return journey leads via Auffach back to Mühltal: 8.5 km of downhill enjoyment.
From Mühltal, the route climbs steeply again: from summer 2026, you will be able to use the new cycle path section from Mühltal to Oberau.
In the sharp bend in Oberau, you can bypass the narrow section near the church via the Drachenpark and from here the descent.

There are numerous places to stop for refreshments at the Aparthotel Talhof am Roggenboden in Oberau, at the Schönangeralm inn, and at the Thalmühle tavern in Mühltal.
