Description

(Multi-Day) Cycling Tour in the Tiroler Zugspitz Arena

The tour starts in Griesen and leads through the stunning landscapes of the Tiroler Zugspitz Arena. The route takes you through the Niedernachtal to the Plansee. After crossing the road near Hotel Forelle, the path follows the panoramic trail above the lake to the canal bridge. Continuing along the Plansee, the route reaches the next bridge before heading toward Heiterwang, where the Heiterwanger See and its various leisure activities offer an ideal spot for a refreshing break.

Beyond the lake, the trail leads to the first creek bridge, where you turn left and follow the Grundbach to the underpass, crossing beneath the main road. The journey continues through the charming villages of Bichlbach, Wengle, and Lähn before arriving in Lermoos.

In the Untergarten district, take a left turn toward Gries. After crossing the railway tracks, the route continues toward Ehrwald, where the "Scheibenweg" offers stunning views. At the end of this section, the path follows the Lussbach through the moorlands before crossing the creek again and heading toward Ehrwald.

The trail proceeds to the base station of the Ehrwalder Almbahn, from where the cycling route to the Ehrwalder Alm begins. Alternatively, the cable car offers a convenient bike transport option. The route continues past the Igelsee, descending through the Gaistal into the picturesque Leutasch valley.

The journey then takes you through Klamm, Platzl, Ober- and Unterweidach, and Burggraben, before the paved road leads to Mittenwald. A turnoff directs cyclists toward the Lautersee and Ferchensee, then through Ellmau and onward to Wamberg. Passing the St. Anna Chapel, the route leads directly to Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

In Garmisch-Partenkirchen, riders can detour to the Auenstraße and the Olympic Ski Stadium. Following the railway tracks, the trail continues toward Kreuzeck and Grainau. From the "Kreuzeckbahnstraße," the route turns onto the "Degenauerweg," which merges into the "Zugspitzstraße" and eventually leads to the Eibsee.

The final stretch runs along the Höhenrainweg, offering spectacular views of Grainau and the Kriegergedächtniskapelle. From there, the descent leads back to Griesen, where the railway tracks are crossed again before heading through Ehrwald Schanz and past the Häselgöhr Waterfall to conclude in Ehrwald.

Highlights: The tour can be started from any point along the route. Additionally, the segment between Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Ehrwald can easily be covered by train.

This diverse tour combines physical challenge with breathtaking scenery in the Tiroler Zugspitz Arena – an unforgettable adventure for cycling enthusiasts!
