Equipment

Good equipment is essential for your hike. The following items should definitely be in your rucksack: - Food and drink - Functional clothing for rain, wind and cold - A change of clothes - Sun protection - First aid kit - Mobile phone with a full battery (Euro emergency number 112) - Hiking map or GPS - Hiking poles Nevertheless, the following applies: light luggage is also easier to carry, so you should not weigh down your rucksack with unnecessary ballast. In addition, your hiking equipment should of course also be adapted to your particular hiking tour.

Description

From the hut, follow the well-signposted path towards Krottenkopf to the west and cross the Wolfsebner Kar - finally, you will ascend slightly to a foothill of the Ilfenspitze. Behind it, your path crosses the Birgerkar in the same direction (ignore the turn-offs to the left and right), then cross the southern foothills of the Hermannskarspitze, climbing slightly. You are now in the largest of the three cirques, the Hermannskar, which you cross in a large arc to the west. Here you should take a break at the Hermannskarsee lake not far from the trail.
Now the path becomes steeper (partly in scree) to the west up to the Krottenkopfscharte (to the right is the optional ascent of the Großer Krottenkop). On the other side, it becomes steeper at first and you descend into the cirque to the west. Keep right at a crossroads. Your path crosses a large scree slope, then turns left and crosses some erosion gullies. You then head back up over greener terrain to the saddle west of the Muttlerkopf. On the other side, you first descend to the north, then your better path turns west again and leads you in a large arc to the Kemptner Hütte.
