Description

Sulzenau Hütte - Nürnberger Hütte via Mairspitze. The trail leaves the Sulzenau Hut in an easterly direction via the Sulzauer Bach stream to the Übergschritt. There follows a 50m descent into the eroded basin of the Freigerferner (lateral moraines, frontal moraines). Continue over the Grünaubach stream to the side moraine up to the Grünausee lake. Then follow the sign in a north-easterly direction to the next fork (Niederl-Mairspitze). From there, continue over easy terrain past several mountain lakes until you reach the summit. Now the trail leads first moderately steeply then steeply in serpentines (short wire rope protection) up to the summit cross of the Mairspitze, where you can enjoy the view over the rear Stubaital on the cosy resting bench. The descent leads over the backside to the Nürnberger Hütte.
