The Innsbruck Almenweg (14)
This delightful and varied circular hike winds its way along above the western holiday villages around the Nockspitze (Saile) mountain. We recommend taking a lift up to the start of the Almenweg trail (the Muttereralmbahn gondola).
The first section of the hike leads from the Muttereralm at an altitude of 1,608 metres above sea level via the Raitiser Alm hut at 1,553 metres above sea level to the Kreither Alm mountain hut at 1,402 metres above sea level. This part of the hike takes about an hour and follows a forest road that is suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs. From the Kreither Alm, the route joins an alpine path that climbs steadily up to the Pfarrachalm mountain hut in the Stubai Valley (1,740 metres above sea level). This section has beautiful views and takes about one hour and 30 minutes.
Afterwards, the route climbs steeply again for another one and a half hours up to the Birgitzköpfl mountain at an altitude of 1,980 metres above sea level. From the Birgitzköplhaus, the route leads downhill through alpine meadows for about 45 minutes to the Birgitzer Alm mountain hut (1,803 metres). Finally, the trail leads gently downhill for another hour and a half, bringing you back to the Muttereralm.
An easy route option is to hike from the Muttereralm to the Götzner Alm mountain hut (1,542 metres). This section of the trail can be completed in a good 30 minutes, even with children who enjoy walking.
There are several spots along the way where you can turn off up to a summit or take a trail down into the valley. From the Kreihter Alm or further afield in the Stubai Valley, the return journey on the Stubai Valley Railway to the Nockhofweg/Muttereralm stop is also a very popular option!
The mountain huts are all open to the public (except for the Raitiser Alm) and are lovely places to take a break with home-made delicacies and magnificent views of the mountains that will make your heart and soul soar.
The entire circular hike takes about six hours (without breaks). It is therefore advisable to divide the Almenweg trail up into two or three stages or to choose individual sections. An unforgettable experience for true mountain lovers!
